Joey, Instructor and Owner of Determining Edge

Joey brings over three decades of ice experience to Determining Edge. Having honed his edges in some of America’s most competitive hockey landscapes—Detroit, Chicago, New York, and Connecticut—Joey understands that different regions, ages, and genders play different styles, but elite skating is the universal language of the game.

Joey offers a rare dual perspective on hockey. As a former player, he understands the physical demands and unpredictable nature of game flow. As an experienced official who has called games for every age group under 19, he knows exactly where a referee needs to be to make the right call—and the specific edges required to get there.

This unique combination of playing experience and officiating insight allows Joey to break down skating mechanics not just for speed, but for positioning, safety, and game management.
