Determining Edge is an ice skating training program designed specifically for officials. Unlike player-focused power skating, our curriculum is tailored to the unique movement patterns of the striped jersey. From pivot timing and backward acceleration to explosive transitions and endurance, we build the foundation you need to keep up with the play and command the game.

What We Teach

Our Focus

• Mastering the distinct multi-directional movement required for zone coverage.
• Seamless pivots from backward to forward (and back again) without losing momentum.
• Reactionary and explosive movements designed to mimic turnover scenarios.

How We Teach

• We divide trainees into three groups based on a combination of age and experience.  
• By dividing the ice into three sections, we focus on skating, proper positioning, and proper technique.  
• Each section is led by either a field-tested and experienced ice hockey official or skilled skating instructor.
• Trainees rotate through each section.
